During a Sabbatical, Sam wrote An Introduction to Christianity: A First Millennium Foundation for Third Millennium Thinkers, (2000) on which Sam also taught courses. A Study Outline (PDF) is available at no charge if requested through the Contact box.
In 1648, Sam’s ancestor Samuel Rutherford, the 17th c. Scottish Puritan divine, wrote Lex Rex (The Law is King) arguing that acts of the State – or King – which contradict God’s Law are illegitimate, which was foundational to the work of John Locke. After the Restoration of Charles II of England, in 1660 Rutherford was marked for execution for his views, but died before he could be arrested.
Over 100 years ago, H. C. G. Moule, Anglican Bishop of Durham, described this devotional of selections from Samuel Rutherford’s Letters as “stored with many jewels” to help the reader see some new thing in Christ every day.
Sam’s late friend and fellow priest, The Rev’d John W. Price, writes about near-death experiences as gifts from God, compatible with Christian spirituality and the Bible, having listened to more than 200 first-hand accounts as a priest.
A revelatory, pragmatic, and beautifully rendered companion for anyone struggling with anxiety, fear, or depression.
