Jacquelyn Campbell’s cover painting captures the theme of Sam Todd’s 2014 Easter sermon at Palmer Church. Sam begins by describing the feeling of awe as he viewed the great chasm from the north rim of the Grand Canyon, when he heard a man nearby say, “Something must have happened here.”
The overlay of the Icon of Christ was inspired by the cover of Sam’s first book, “An Introduction to Christianity: A First Millennium Foundation for Third Millennium Thinkers” and reflects the oneness of Christ with his Creation, emphasized by glazes in the earth tones of the Canyon. The transparency of the icon represents the ongoing “invisible” work of the Spirit in the Church and the world: all creation will be perfected in Christ.
The Annunciation, a work of Jackie’s which Sam dearly loved, which opens the season of Advent, is also Jackie’s work.

The remaining illustrations are pieces from the walls of Sam’s study, which Jackie selected and photographed to introduce the other seasons of the Church year.
Jackie is also a dentist, was happily married to the late Lawrence G. Root, M.D., a psychiatrist and friend of Sam, the proud mother of sons Chris and Tim Root, and over-the moon grandmother of Maggie, Campbell and George Root.
